Sammanfattning
In the beginning, the demand was to find the proximity of the mobile user in out-door scenario and for that the Global Positioning System (GPS) serves the purpose very well. Now the requirement is to locate the position of the mobile node inside the building using existing wireless technologies. The aim of this thesis is to investigate and compare different radio based techniques in order to final the position coordinates of the blind node. The techniques which are under consideration are Received Signal Strength, Time-of-Arrival and Time-Difference-of-Arrival. Since the Global Positioning System lacks precision in determining the proximity of an entity in indoor environment, so for that reason we focused our attention on utilizing the existing wireless technologies to estimate the approximate location for the blind node. In the first phase, this thesis explains in details the theory and literature behind these 3 techniques. In the second phase, we focus our attention on its practical implementation. In the third phase we conclude our experimental results based upon the analysis carried out on the measured data and finally we made an analytical comparison between power and delay based techniques. Finally, after all these analysis and simulation results we can conclude that Time-of-Arrival (TOA) provides much better accuracy as compared to Received Signal Strength (RSS). However, for higher accuracy of the system Ultra-Wide band Signal which utilizes larger bandwidth can be used in order to have high time resolution for better position estimation.
