Sammanfattning
The use of phase locked loops (PLL) in transmitter architectures have been widely examined and evaluated, but with new technologies comes new challenges. In June 2016 the specification for Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) was completed. The demand from customers on NB-IoT developers is low power consumption, low maintenance and low cost. Optimization of the transmitter can greatly reduce the power consumption and area and hence the cost, leading to a competitive edge. The goal with this work is to evaluate the feasibility of a fully integrated transmitter topology for NB-IoT from the PLLs perspective. The starting point of this project will be a multi-tone solution with a linear power amplifier(PA). If time allows, an investigation of how different modulation schemes and how the type of PA topology affects the overall feasibility of the transmitter from the PLLs perspective will be made. The PLL should be able to cover all the frequency bands in the NB-IoT specification in the range 450 MHz - 2200 MHz.
