Cryptography, Privacy and Security Lab
In the CRYptography, Privacy and SecuritY (CRYPSY) Lab, we conduct research on cryptographic primitives and secure systems, and how the two meet in the design and analysis of cryptographic applications and provably-secure systems. We span a large number of research topics in the cryptography and security domain, and our courses reflect this broad expertise.
Our research in cryptography includes both symmetric and asymmetric key ciphers. We primarily work on design and cryptanalysis of stream ciphers, design of and attacks against new post-quantum cryptosystems, homomorphic authenticators, and privacy-aware data storage and sharing solutions.
Our security research currently includes vulnerability analysis, both from a technical and an organizational perspective. It also includes IoT security for controlling the next generation factories and industry 4.0. The lab also works on network security, both investigating the security of network protocols and improving and extending the security of software-defined networks, for example using trusted execution environments.
Important Achievements in the Lab:
SNOW and Grain are two prominent examples of stream ciphers developed (partly) within our group. Both have been chosen as ISO standards and are currently used in actual systems and devices.
