Exploiting the cell broadband engine for cost efficient computations
2009-04-01 -> 2010-05-31
Abstract: | IBM's cell processor architecture seems to be very promising for special purpose calculations. Being based on a Power Architecture with an additional eight coprocessing elements, the processor can allow a significant speedup compared to other modern processors. Sony's Playstation 3 is one commercial product based on the cell architecture. It can be used to make the cell processor architecture available for educational and scientific purposes at a very low cost. In this project we intend to build up a small cluster, investigating how to optimize code to make this cluster available for general scientific research. Typical targets for research are algorithms used in coding theory and cryptography. |
