Sammanfattning
The subject of the Master Thesis is about disturbances generated in the own home (e.g. a generator) and from radio stations. These disturbances can affect the ADSL access link to the home and contribute to jitter and packet losses in the data flow. This is a big problem when it comes to IPTV service, because people assume that the television will work faultless. The main disturbances over ADSL access networks are crosstalk, RFI and man-made problems. With crosstalk means interference between many different conductors in the same cable. RFI (Radio Frequency interference) are the disturbances generated in the home and from radio stations. Man-made problems can be when someone has connected a telephone before the splitter to the ADSL modem in the home. The Master Thesis will start with theoretical studies to give a better picture of DSL access links, followed by assisting in setting up the laboratory environment. The laboratory environment shall be a model of a home connected to a DSLAM through a telephone line. The DSLAM is located in a local central office. The aim is to characterize disturbances, at the CPE (Customer-premises equipment) and DSLAM side, from the home. The aim is also to locate the disturbances in the DSLAM. Outer radio frequency and home equipment disturbances are to be generated. The effect of these disturbances in the home and in the DSLAM will be observed both on physical layer and on IP layer.
