Computer Vision Approaches for Extracting Fire-Safety Information from Service Drawings

Abstract

We want to use pictures of floor plans in order to extract information about a building’s fire safety elements such as detectors, emergency exits, fire zones, etc. Plenty of floor plans supplemented with fire-safety information exist, containing varying markers for outlining fire zones, showing the locations of flame detectors etc. As of now, there is no efficient way to extract this information, and neither is there a useful format for compiling this information. Our hope is therefore to be able to automate this process and present the information in a way that could benefit workers within this domain of fire safety as well as computer systems within or related to it.
