Biografi

Viktor Öwall is Professor in Circuit Design, Head of the Department of Electrical and Information Technology and the Director of VINNOVA Industrial Excellence Center in System Design on Silicon.

Viktor Öwall received the M.S.E.E., the Tekn. Licentiat degree and the Ph.D. from Lund University, Lund, Sweden in 1988, 1991 and 1994 respectively. In May 2003 he also received the Swedish title Docent and became Professor in 2010. In May 1988 he joined Lund University in the digital ASIC design group where he mainly worked in the field of automated design of digital signal processing circuits, especially controller synthesis, controller architectures, and control flow dominated applications. From September 1995-August 1996 Dr Öwall joined the Electrical Engineering Department at UCLA as a visiting researcher on a postdoc grant from the Swedish Research Council for Engineering Sciences in the research group of Professor Rajeev Jain. There he mainly worked in the field of multi-media simulations. In September 1996 he rejoined Lund University as an Associate Professor. As a guest researcher he has visited UCLA two months during the fall of 1997 and UC Berkeley, at Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC), one month during the fall of 2000. His main interests are in the field of silicon implementation of custom DSPs, especially issues related to algorithm/hardware co-design. Special interests are: microprogrammed architectures, silicon implementation of larger systems, high level system simulations, and the design of communication systems. Viktor Öwall is director of the VINNOVA Industrial Excellence Center in System Design on Silicon. He is also active in the SSF Center for High Speed Wireless Communication, the SSF Center for Wireless Communication for Ultra Portable Devices and the EU FP7 STREP Multi-Base. He has also been active in several previous research projects including the Competence Center for Circuit Design (CCCD), the FP6 IPs MAGNET and  MAGNETbeyond, the EU FP5 STREP Pacwoman as well as the the national programs PCC and Socware. He is the department representative to the European research network HERMES.

Viktor Öwall was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions of Circuits and Systems-I 2007-2009, Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions of Circuits and Systems II from 2000-2002, and Guest Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems special issua on ISCAS'2010.

He is currently a member of the technical program committee of the IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference (BioCAS), International Symposium of Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC) and Norchip. He is also a member of the Technical Committees for VLSI Systems and on Biomedical Circuits and Systems of the IEEE Circuit and Systems Society. He was a member of the TCP of the IEEE International Conference on Computer Design (ICCD) 2002-2005.

Viktor Öwall is also one of the founders of the start-up company within the field of digital holographic imaging, Phase Holographic Imaging AB. The company was emerging from research projects within the VINNOVA Competence Centre CCCD.
