Sammanfattning
The proposed thesis work is about studying how energy is consumed in a 4G LTE network, identifying parts in a mobile network that can have potential for reducing the energy consumption without affecting the performance. The network model covers a “typical” European country and the goal is to improve and refine this prevalent model by analyzing and investigating all feasible power saving features/enhancements and the implementing it which would then be subjected to simulations to verify the analysis. The thesis project would primarily try to focus on the following aspects: 1. Analysis of network evolution strategies to meet the future traffic demand with respect to energy efficiency. 2. Energy performance in order to improve radio access capacity. 3. Energy performance in dense and sparse macro deployments. 4. Energy performance with addition of small cells in indoor deployments. 5. Energy performance after adding/removing frequency bands. 6. Mechanisms for improving the energy performance in the radio access network. 7. Additional aspects may be added as agreed which would come up with more investigation. The challenge with designing an energy efficient network is to avoid reducing quality or coverage and hence reducing the performance.
