Microwave theory 2014
Microwave technique and theory are very important for all applications where electromagnetic waves with frequencies above 100 MHz are used. We find these applications in radio communication, circuit design, optical systems and particle accelerators. There will be a visit to MAXlab and lectures by guests from ESS and MAXlab.
The course covers the basic theory of transmission lines, waveguides, cavity resonators and optical fibers. The examination is by assignments and a project.
Information
New information regarding the course is given below:
Notice that the laboratory sessions are at 13-17 Tuesday, May 6 and 8-12 Thursday, May 8, in the Radio laboratory in the northern part of the E-building, second floor. You need to sign up for the lab. Go to "Anmälan" and sign up.
The lectures on Monday 7/4 and Wednesday 9/4 have been moved to Thursday 10/4 13-15 in E3139 (OBS!) and Friday 11/4 13-15 in E2349.
There was an error in the set of problems for week 1 and 2. It should be 3.6-3.16.
The book Microwave theory (2014) can be downloaded here.
Comsol is frequently used in the course. You may download the latest version 4.4 to your own computer. Go to http://program.ddg.lth.se/ and log in with your STIL account. Then download the license file and the ISO-file (click on DVD) for the latest Comsol. In order to run it you need to be hooked up to the LU-network. If you are not on this network you can run Comsol by using VPN. You find information on how to download VPN at http://www.ldc.lu.se/tjaenster and click on Nätverk - vpn and supportguider för vpn. There you click on Nätverk and then VPN and follow the instructions. The instructions are on Swedish. If you need help please contact Anders.
