Sammanfattning
Background The research at the electromagnetic field theory group at the Division of Electro- and Information Technology focuses on theoretical methods for electromagnetic scattering and absorption. In collaboration with Combustion Physics methods have been developed for scattering from complex geometries such as soot particles. The Division of Combustion Physics develops laser diagnostic methods to measure soot particle sizes and concentrations with the overall motivation to reduce particle emission from combustion and make such processes more effective. One of the techniques used for this purpose is light scattering. Equations for elastic light scattering are straightforward for very small spherical particles but soot particles in flames tend to form larger aggregates, then the scattering behaviour is much more complicated.
