Sammanfattning
Miniaturization of a Low Power Harmonic Radar for UAV use Harmonic radars are useful for detecting and tracking small objects such as insects. It comprises a transmitter/ receiver subsystem and a small distant tag. The transmitter subsystem launches the high-power radar wave which is then reflected by the small tag at a harmonic component of the transmitted wave (usually the second harmonic) then the receiver subsystem receives the reflected wave. The tag must be of lightweight and small size to be placed on the insect, hence minimum number of components can be used, and the tag should be working without battery. The aim with this Master’s thesis work is to design the harmonic radar transmitter, receiver and digitizer subsystems in small size, lightweight and of low power so that it can be carried by a drone. The radar connected to the transmit and receive antennas should detect the tagged insect from at least 100m away. To comply with the requirements other considerations such as digital modulations will be investigated to increase the correlation of the radar wave and improve the SNR. Also, further investigation on how to differentiate between different tagged insects will be considered.
