Kursbeskrivning
This course considers the latest technology development in wireless communications: LTE, LTE Advanced (Release-10) some times referred to as "true 4G", and Release-11.
These systems are high performing and represent "state-of-the-art" in many aspects, and the performance targets are indeed impressive.
The aim of this course is to give good knowledge concerning principles, concepts, functioning, performance and limitations for such systems for mobile communications.
This course also includes trends for future system solutions.
In this course we will use the Second Edition of the book "4G, LTE/LTE-Advanced for Mobile Broadband",
written by the authors Erik Dahlman, Stefan Parkvall, Johan Sköld. Academic Press, 2014.
The list below of the different chapters in this book gives a good indication of the content of this course. Note that we will not study all chapters in detail. Several chapters will be studied partially.
Examples of important topics that is studied in this course are: Fundamental limits for the bit rate - capacity results and interpretations. Spectrum flexibility. OFDM - multi user communications. Systems with multiple antennas. The time-frequency grid. Adaptive mechanisms in connection with variations in channal quality in the downlink and in the uplink. Transmission methods in the downlink and in the uplink. The physical layer. Control signals base station - mobile. Receiver structures. Performance for LTE and LTE Advanced. Trends for future systems.
This is an advanced level course and it is assumed that the students have previous knowledge (förutsatta förkunskaper) corresponding to the courses ETT051 Digital Communications and ETIN15 Radio systems.
