Projekt
In this course there will be two mandatory projects:
- Routing protocols Mandatory
- TCP Mandatory
For the time frame of the projects, check the time schedule or the course's moodle instance.
Each project concludes in a written report. When this report is accepted the individual project is accepted.
Routing Protocols Lab
Students taking the course ETSF05 Internet Protocols should follow instructions on that courses web page.
This lab is a distance project in the sence that you can perform it whenever you want within the specified time, from where ever you want. The first lecture of the ETSF10 course, on Monday 2015-10-31, will be an introductory lecture to this project.
Deadlines:
- 2016-11-03: M1 Forming of groups
- 2016-11-10: M2 Get to know the lab
- 2016-11-17: M3 Hands on
- 2016-11-24: M4 RIP
- 2016-12-01: M5 OSPF
- 2016-12-08: D1 Final report
The dealines are soft, in the sence that the supervisor will start commenting and grading after that date. Late submissions will be allowed but grading of those will be down prioritiesed in favor of submission within the deadlines.
You perform this lab in groups of one to two students, where groups of two is the preferred group. You register groups by enroll to the course in moodle and sending mail to the project supervisor, see instructions in the slides from the introduction lecture. If you have problem finding a lab partner you could use the project forum in moodle.
There is only one copy of lab equipment is. Therefore, only one group at any time can access the lab. Booking session on the Router Lab homepage. Plan and book your sessions wisely!
The supervisor is available - obviously not 24/7 - via mail, phone or sms or spontanious visit to his office. Personal meetings can be booked via mail. Also there will be open office hours, see below.
It is highly recommended to read and understand all material needed for a session before accessing the lab. It is better to ask questions on fuzzy parts of the lab manual before then during a session.
Due to attack attemps, the lab is protected by a firewall. To connect to the lab, both for lab sessions and for bookings, your client computer must be, physically or logically via VPN, connected to the university network.
The lab opens for the course ETSF10 2015-10-31.
Milestones and deliverables (i.e. reports) should be uploaded to the moodle system in PDF format. Filenames must be namned with groud id, followed by milestone or deliverable id. Example: ETSF10-2016-99-M2.pdf

TCP Lab
This lab provides you hands-on experience with the TCP protocol. You'll be analyzing a pre-stored TCP session with the help of wireshark ( https://www.wireshark.org/ ).
Lab Material:
- Introduction to the TCP Lab (slides & contact information).
- TCP Lab Assignment (updated!)
- TCP_labAssignment.pcap (pre-stored TCP session).
Note: Due to imcompatibilities between Wireshark latest version and the .pcap file, I have updated question 8.2.2 and removed the item requesting the name of the video. It was impossible for some versions of wireshark to export the HTTP objects correctly.
