The course focuses on the physics and microwave theory that are important in particle accelerators. It covers the basic theory of special relativity, motion of charged particles in electromagnetic fields, radiation from accelerating particles, waveguides, and microwave cavities. The finite element software package COMSOL Multiphysics is frequently used in the part of the course that deals with microwaves. There will be a visits to MAX IV and ESS, and guest lectures from scientists at ESS and the MAX IV laboratory.
The examination is by assignments and a home exam.
