Massive MIMO is a latest technology in modern 5G cellular networks that is expected to meet the never ending higher data rate requirements by increasing the number of antennas in cellular base stations. However increasing the antennas in base stations requires to carefully and critically analyze the system design choices in order to reduce the amount of energy consumed by each antenna chain. This project aims to find efficient methods to reduce energy consumption particularly focusing on Power amplifiers, which are major source of Power consumption in traditional base stations. This research project has been funded by Ericsson AB, Lund, Sweden which is world leader in modern state of art communication technology and aims to build smart and energy efficient future mobile networks.
