Vetenskapsrådet grants EIT researchers funding

Vetenskapsrådets decided 13-14/11 2007 to grant the following EIT researchers with funding:
- Rolf Johannesson for "Codes over graphs and graphs over codes"
- Thomas Magesacher for "Optimal Multicarrier-Signal Design"
- Fredrik Tufvesson, with Andreas Molisch as co-applicant, for "Channel modelling for cooperative and interfering MIMO systems"
- Andreas Molisch, Fredrik Tufvesson, Anders Derneryd, and Fredrik Harrysson for Industry Ph.D. Projekt together with Ericsson AB (Björn Johannisson main applicant) "Multiple antenna systems for mobile communication in real environments"
- Martin Stridh for "Signal Pattern Analysis for Phenotyping and Drug Therapy Evaluation in Atrial Tachyarrhythmias"
Price to EIT researchers

Mats Gustafsson, Christian Sohl and Gerhard Kristensson has been awarded a research price for Best Poster at the european annual Antenna Conference EuCAP, 11-16 november, 2007, in Edinburgh. The price was designated in competition with more than 250 other posters from research institutes and universities from foremost Europe, Asia, and North America.

Exjobb tillsammans med SonyEricsson: Positionering av mobiltelefoner

Ett nytt exjobb i samarbete med SonyEricsson är annonserat. Examensarbetet går ut på att praktiskt undersöka metoder för att geografiskt positionera mobiltelefoner. En sådan metod skall sedan implementeras och utvärderas i ett testsystem. Noggrannheten skall också jämföras mot GPS-positionering. Examensarbetet skall som slutprodukt designa ett självständigt testsystem som kan provas i ett större pilotförsök.

New Master Thesis student

Silvia Sadaba is an Erasmus student from Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain. She will write her master Thesis with John B. Anderson and Fredrik Rusek as supervisors. Silvia will stay until March, 2008. The title of her thesis is "On the impact of MIMO metrics on trellis based reduced complexity detection of MIMO channels".

Diploma Thesis by Eramus student

Florian Hug is an Erasmus student from University of Ulm, Germany. He will write his Diploma Thesis with Rolf Johannesson as supervisor. Florian will stay until March, 2008. The title of his thesis is "On graph-based convolutional codes" and regular bipartite graphs that can represent tailbiting codes will be studied. In particular, Florian will consider BEAST-APP decoding of such codes. This work is within the frame of our research on codes on graphs.

VHS: Första antagningen klar

Utdrag ur dagens informationsmöte:
- Lokalgruppen räknar med att i nästa vecka presentera sitt förslag.
- Kick-offen i juni är viktig för alla vid institutionen. Därför deltag. Ledningsgruppen tar gärna emot förslag på ämnen som bör tas upp.
- Två nya Ph D studenter har kommit till institutionen. Två doktorandtjänster och en forskartjänst är utlysta.
- GU kursinformation fortsätter fredagar 08.30 - 10, nu närmast är ämnet Signaler ...
- Ansökningar har skickats in till VR (Signals & Systems 9 st; Semiconductor Physics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Phononics 5 st; Biomedical Engineering 1 st), till EUs 7e ramprogram minst 5 st och till KAW 1st.
- Arbetet med att bilda en institutionsstyrelese fortgår.
- Påminnelse om krav på pedagogisk utbildning för lärare (kursförslag är utsänt).
Ny professor i signalbehandling: Per Eriksson
