Novel Antenna System Design Paradigm for Compact MIMO Terminals

2013-01-01 -> 2015-12-31

Sammanfattning: Today, one key technology for wireless communications is multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). In theory, MIMO can dramatically increase data rates by as many times as the number of antennas used. However, in reality, the benefits of MIMO depend largely on the antennas and the propagation channel. In this project, we address fundamental challenges in designing multi-antennas for compact MIMO terminals by considering two key interactions that influence the ability of the multi-antenna to support the theoretical MIMO performance gain. First, we will study the interactions between the antennas and the chassis in the terminal, to determine the physical mechanisms behind the interactions and optimize them in a design framework. Second, we will explore the impact of the user on the antenna-chassis interaction, to account for its impact in optimal antenna design. We will also consider the impact of the antenna-user interaction on the electromagnetic exposure of the user.
