Sammanfattning
Technology advancement in computing and communication technology has led to a new paradigm: the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Things is a broad concept that encompasses any dynamic infrastructure where different objects are interconnected, forming a global network of smart devices. In order to support this challenging scenario, new technologies have to be developed. Among them, the development of ultra-low-power processors for energy-efficient devices is a crucial point. The aim with this Master’s thesis work is to explore the capability of a stack-based Java processor to meet IoT requirements. In order to achieve this goal, an ultra-low-power processor will be implemented. For this reason, the main challenges are: •Reduce the energy consumption of an existing open-source Java processor •Extend the functionality to meet IoT application requirements by means of hardware accelerator design.
