Sammanfattning
The objective of this thesis is to derive new methods and algorithms for enhancing the energy efficiency of wireless access networks. This involves a mix of theoretical work along with experimental studies consisting of: * evaluating the impact of sleep modes on coverage and quality in a realistic setting using simulations * derivation of metrics for evaluating energy efficiency in different scenarios * development of autonomous algorithms for improving energy efficiency comprising of, e.g., selection of sleep mode and which base stations to put in sleep mode given constraints on service quality degradation and coverage * evaluating the performance of the developed autonomous algorithms using simulations, considering practical constraints
