Sammanfattning
In this Master Thesis parts of a JPEG XR encoder has been developed targeted for low power and area. The encoder can be used to accelerate coding time and reduce power consumption. JPEG XR is an image format developed by Microsoft. Compared to traditional JPEG, JPEG XR has support for high dynamic range imaging and has the ability to perform lossless coding. Compression ratio is higher than JPEG and can be compared with JPEG2000. The design is synthesizable to 375 MHz using a low power TSMC 65nm library. For the implemented parts a throughput of 125 MPixels/s is possible. The design occupies 78435μm^2 and has been implemented using VHDL. The design uses two external memories, one of the memories have to be dedicated memory with the dimension of 256x96 bits. The other memory has low performance requirements and could be a shared memory, its dimensions depends on the width of image. The design has been verified on a FPGA, images generated on the FPGA have been compared with a reference design developed in JAVA.
