Sammanfattning
Precoding is a closed loop based beamforming technique, where the antenna weights to be used for the beamforming are selected based on the feedback from the user equipment measurements. This feedback is given in the form of a codebook index, which is used to get the antenna weight matrix to be used for the beamforming. The codebook based precoding has a limitation from the beam width and from the adaptability of the wireless channel. With the evolution of the communication network towards 5G, an effort has been made to further strengthen the codebook based precoding. While LTE supports only one type of codebook, in 5G, codebook type II has been introduced. Also, the codebook type II is further enhanced with single panel and multi-panel codebook. The main purpose of this thesis is to simulate precoding using codebook type II and explore using it for multi user MIMO.
