Course Material
The main material of the course are chapters 1-8 in Orfanidis' book. In addition, we use two book chapters from other sources. All of the course material can be downloaded freely from the web.
- Sophocles J. Orfanidis: Electromagnetic Waves and Antennas. You can download either the full book in one pdf-file, or each chapter individually. Note that there is a solutions manual for the first two chapters on Orfanidis' web site.
- Daniel Sjöberg. Circuit Analogs for Wave Propagation in Stratified Structures, Wave Propagation in Materials for Modern Applications, Andrey Petrin (Ed.), INTECH, 2010. ISBN: 978-953-7619-65-7. Only sections 1 and 2 are used in the course.
- Bondeson, Rylander, Ingelström: Computational Electromagnetics, Chapter 5: The Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method. This is available as an e-book via Lund University's Library if you are within the university's network: go to the main page www.lub.lu.se, search for "computational electromagnetics", click on the e-book search results. Note that only chapter 5 is used in the course.
In addition, on Orfanidis' web site you can find many useful matlab script (scroll to the bottom of the page), and the lectures are frequently using demonstration scripts, which are available next to the lecture notes. These will be posted on this site as the course progresses.
If you are unfamiliar with matlab these tutorials may be of help.
For those who read Swedish, the book Elektromagnetisk vågutbredning by Gerhard Kristensson can give an alternative view of the subject. It is out of print from the publisher Studentlitteratur, but Gerhard has made it available for downloading. It does not cover all of the course, and uses a different time convention. The first few chapters have been translated into English and can be downloaded here.
