Kursinformation
WE START on 19th of March (room E:3139). WELCOME! Book for the course: I. Bocharova COMPRESSION FOR MULTIMEDIA, Cambridge Univ. Press (is sold via INTERNET) This course is primarily intended for third and fourth year (C,D, and E) as well as second year (C) undergraduate students. Moreover, it is recommended for graduate students with an interest in compression techniques for multimedia. The lectures will be given in English. Lossy compression techniques and their applications to image, video, speech and audio compression are studied. The course consists of six parts. In Parts 1 and 2 the basic aspects of source coding with fidelity criteria are introduced. In Parts 3, 4, and 5 commonly used coding techniques are discussed. Part 6 is devoted to modern standards for image, video, speech, and audio compression. The standards JBIG, JPEG, JPEG 2000, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H264 are described.
