Kursinformation
The aim of the course is to give a deep understanding in how fiber networks are built and how they work in different parts of the communication chain. The students will get an understanding of how the networks are constructed, from the physical transmission up to network architectures. It also gives underatanding about the requirements are imposed by the applications at different parts of the network, and how they are solved. The students in the course should be able to decide what type of fibre technology is appropriate and why. They will also get insigths about how the networks are managed and optimised.
The main course book used is:
- Optical Networks; a practical perspective, 3rd Edition, by R. Ramaswami, K. N. Sivarajan and G. H. Sasaki.
In some lectures it is also referd to other books:
- Fiber-optic communication systems, 4th Edition, by G. P. Agrawal.
Both books are available as e-books at the Lund University library, LUBserach.
