Capacitive Proximity Sensor Design Project

The aim of this project was to create a proximity sensor from two aluminium cans, the cans would detect an approaching object electronically. We created an oscillating electrical signal for each can, the frequency of this signal is related to the condition of the cans through their measured capacitance. This capacitance changes as an object (we used our hands) comes close to the metal. We combined the signals and amplified the difference through a common speaker so the signal can be heard as it changes in pitch from a hand moving closer or farther from each can.
