The course "communication systems and networks" deals with the fundamental functions of and protocols used for data communications, with special focus on local area networks and the Internet. A selection of the topics we will cover is as follows:

• Sending and receiving signals corresponding to binary data
• Frames and packets for reliable transmission
• Organising access to the network in a shared medium
• Structure of Internet-based networks
• Various protocols used on the Internet
• Network- and/or Internet-enabled applications

The course is given in Swedish and English. I will do my best to stick to Swedish in the lectures, while the slides will be in English. (You can ask questions and make comments in both languages.) The exercise sessions and the labs are held in English. The final exam is in Swedish.

Students registered to ETSF15 Kommunikationssystem och nätverk are welcome to the opening lecture on Monday, January 15, at 10:00 in E:1406, in which I will first give an introduction to the course and then continue with our first topic.
