Welcome to EITF50: Introduction to Wireless Systems, 2023

 

 

This course aims to provide a broad and general knowledge of high-frequency electronic circuits (also known as radio frequency (RF) circuits), and measurement tools especially those used in wireless radio communications. The fundamental circuit building blocks are introduced and their important functional and design characteristics are investigated. This will not only provide a solid fundamental understanding of the radio transceiver (base station or user equipment of a wireless communication system) but also the requirements placed on the used circuits at both link ends of a wireless system, which help the engineers to develop a deep insight into the wireless radio systems architecture and design.

Advanced measurement techniques will be taught and will be practiced in reality with spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers during laboratory experiments to study separate circuit blocks and component behaviors. A separate laboratory session is dedicated to the system-level simulation of some fundamental concepts in wireless radio systems in a modern CAD tool.

Thus, An Introduction to Wireless Systems is a compulsory course for those who later want to specialize as RF designers of communication systems both at the circuit level and system level.
