Biografi
Kaan Bür, Universitetslektor
I earned my B.Sc. degree in control and computer engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1995, my M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, in 1998 and 2006, respectively. From 1995 to 2004, I worked as an R&D engineer for the consumer electronics industry in Istanbul. Since I earned my Ph.D., I have worked as a researcher at various European universities. From 2006 to 2007, I was a senior researcher at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Technische Universität Berlin, where I led the "StrokeNet" project on the development of a wireless communication system prototype for ambulances carrying stroke patients. Funded by EFRE, European Funds for Regional Development (EUR 400.000), the project dealt with connection establishment and maintenance in infrastructure-based heterogeneous wireless networks. From 2008 to 2009, I was a research associate in Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London, and a member of the "Active Aircraft" project, which was funded by EPSRC, UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and Airbus UK (GBP 180.000). Its objective was to develop efficient and reliable wireless communication algorithms for wireless sensor and actuator networks, which were to be deployed on the wings of the aircraft control the skin friction drag, reducing the overall fuel consumption. My task was to design a routing algorithm addressing the efficiency and reliability issues in terms of transmission delay, throughput, packet loss, load balancing and energy consumption. From 2009 to 2011, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Department of Electrical and Information Technology, Lund University. Between 2011 and 2013, I continued working at the same department as a researcher. My research in this period concerned reliable multihop communications in vehicular ad hoc networks, and my project dealt with ad hoc emergency communications between moving cars to support vehicular safety applications. My primary objective was to develop relative-position-based selective broadcast algorithms capable of satisfying the real-time requirements of these applications. The project was a part of our umbrella project "Cross-layer Design of VANETs for Traffic Safety", funded by ELLIIT, Excellence Center at Linköping-Lund in Information Technology (SEK 1.089.000), and in close collaboration with partners from various other high-ranked Swedish universities. Since 2013, I have been a project coordinator here at EIT. During this time, I managed a number of research projects funded by VINNOVA, CELTIC Next, and EIT Digital, and took also part in Horizon 2020 projects. My current research interests include autonomous communications, next generation mobile broadband networks, mobile and vehicular ad hoc networks, wireless mesh and sensor networks, and network performance optimisation. I am also interested in the communications aspects of cyber-physical systems and networked control systems. |
