Meritförteckning

Peter Nilsson is a Full Professor in Electronic Design (elektronikkonstruktion). He was born in Borlänge, Sweden on December 9, 1958 and has grown up in Skåne in the southern part of Sweden. Currently, he is active as a Professor in the Digital ASIC group at Department of Electrical and Information Technology, Lund University. Peter’s main interest is in the field of silicon implementation of digital ASICs related to the communication area. Since 1996 Peter has supervised 4 Ph.D. students to the doctoral degree, one to licentiate degree, and has 4 on the way. He have supervised and/or examined around 100 students at Master’s thesis level, both national and international.  Peter have authored or co-authored around 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers.  He has been active in two national research programs. The first was the “Socware Research & Education” program where he was the program manager as well as the person authorized to sign 2000-2005. He was also one of the area managers in the SSF Integrated Electronics (INTELECT) program, 1999-2002.

Peter Nilsson’s main teaching activity is in digital electronics with focus on digital IC-design on Master’s level. He developed the course, Digital IC-Design, and has taught it 12 times since 1998 where one was in industry and one in advanced form as a Ph.D. student course. He is also active in the other courses in the Digital ASIC track at the department. On national level, as the program manager in Socware Research & Education, he was responsible for the educational activities within the program. The Socware program started Master’s education in System-on-Chip design at three places in Sweden, namely Kista, Linköping, and Lund. In February 1988,

Peter reached the Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Lund Institute of Technology, Lund University under supervision of Adjunct Professor Sven Mattisson. The thesis was entitled “Testkretsar i CMOS”. In May 1992, he reached the degree Licentiate of Engineering and in May 1996, the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering both with the subject Applied Electronics. Both degrees were awarded at Department of Applied Electronics, LTH, Lund University and the advisor was Adjunct Professor Mats Torkelson. The Licentiate thesis was entitled “A CMOS VLSI Cell Library for Digital Signal Processing” and the doctoral thesis was entitled “Custom Designed Digital Signal Processors Using Bit-Serial Arithmetic”. After the Ph.D. degree, Peter begun as an Assistant Professor at Department of Applied Electronics (now Department of Electrical and Information Technology), Lund University, and in November 1997 he became Associate Professor at the same department, which also is the present position. In December 2003, the degree Docent was awarded and in July 2008 he was appointed the Full Professor degree.
