Sammanfattning

The purpose of this master thesis requested from ITT Flygt is to introduce USB into their product range. The company has witnessed USB to advance as a protocol in the business of monitoring and surveillance. ITT Flygt now wants USB to be a feature on their products. First of all Flygt wants a better knowledge of the different advantages USB stands over other forms of serial communication protocols (i.e., RS232). They also want a better knowledge of how USB works in a technical aspect and what benefits it brings. The major part of this thesis is to construct a fully functional USB-host interface. This interface shall finally be applied on the different types of monitoring solutions that Flygt offers.
