Abstract

The interdisciplinary NeuroNano research center has developed a software simulator for neural signals recorded from within the brain. This simulator is implemented in Matlab, and is run as a batch process. In order to be able to test real time measurement systems for neural signals, the simulator is going to be ported to an FPGA using the HAPS platform. The goal is to be able to concurrently simulate 64 neural electrodes, given the geometry of their placement in the brain. In addition to the simulated signals, the ground truth signal, i.e. the actual neuron spiking and the time stamps, should be available from the simulator. The project includes the implementation of the D/A-boards needed to get analog signals from the HAPS platform.
