Sammanfattning

During the last ten years media streaming has found its way into our computer desktops. Streaming services include everything from the daily TV-news and personalized radio channels to on demand music shopping. With the introduction of high-speed data communication to mobile devices a lot of these services have begun to find their way to the mobile market. There are many ways of streaming media but one of the most frequently used building blocks of these services is the Real Time Streaming Protocol, RTSP. RTSP could be described as a remotecontrol protocol in the sense that it provides VCR-like control mechanisms to a stream. This thesis describes the essential protocols needed for streaming. It also describes the development of an extended RTSP client implementation for the Obigo architecture and integration with an existing media player. We also investigate the possibility to reuse existing implementations for data delivery, media description and data decoding. The result of this thesis is a fully implemented RTSP client with one extension protocol added. The client is integrated with an existing media player in the Obigo architecture.
